Part B&C
Quotes:
1.” There was a time when the world was sweeter… When the women in Beaufort, North Carolina wore dresses and the men downed hats. Every April, when the wind would smell of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter would remember 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he’d been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he’d fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town’s Baptist Minister.”
2. “ It was the kind of place where the humidity rose so high in the summer that walking out to get the mail made a person feel as if they needed a shower, and kids walked around from April through October barefoot beneath oak trees draped in Spanish moss.”
3. “People waved from their cars whenever they saw someone on the street whether they knew them or not, and the air smelled of pine, salt, and sea, a scent unique to the Carolinas.”
4.” Jamie was the type of girl who would pull weeds in someone’s garden or stop traffic to help little kids cross the road. She’s save her allowance to buy s new basketball for the orphans, or she’d turn around and drop the money into the church basket on Sunday. She was in other words, the kind of girl that made the rest of us look bad, and whenever she’d glance my way I couldn’t help but feel guilty, even though I hadn’t done anything wrong.”
5.”She’s such a nice young lady, the world would be a better place if there were more people like her.”

Our group discussion went well. We only had one snack, cheez-its, but they were good. first, we discussed whether or not we liked what we read, we all enjoyed it. Than, we helped answer person A's questions. Olivia did a a good job keeping everyone on topic. She also did a great job on giving us things to talk about when we ran out of ideas. After that, Nikki read us her qoutes that she had prepared.
Week Two:
Olivia- b and c Nikki- d Alex- a
Part A-
the language our book contains is easy to read. it’s conversational and classic, but mostly conversational. it doesn’t use a variety of words, so it’s easy to understand. i think the grade level A Walk to Remember is written at is either 8th or 9th grade. i think so because it is easy to read and stay focused on but not to easy, and the whole topic is sometimes hard to understand but as you go on it reveals itself. if anyone younger or older than that age read this, i think they would feel out of place. if the person is younger, it maybe be a hard concept for them to understand, and at times inappropriate. if someone older were to read this, i think they would get a little bored and it would be easy for them.
Part B and C: Questions:
Why is jamies dad talking to landon before the dance?
to see whys hes taking jamie to the dance and make sure it isn't a prank.
Why do you think landon isn't emmbaressed about taking jamie to the dance?
I think he dosent care because he likes her alot just doesn't knows it yet.
If jamies dad dosent like landon why do you think hes letting him take his daughter to the dance?
I think he knows it makes his daughter happy.
Why do you think the dance didnt go so well?
I think because of peer pressure and what other kids think.
Do you think jamie and landon will work out together?
I think they will because they are into each other and i know they love each other.
Quotes:
" A sweet tale of young but everlasting love"
"And with all the love notes shes been sending me lately, i reckon it must have worked"
" A tradgic yet spiritual love story"
"I know that challenge's are always part of lords plan but i dont want to belive that the lord is cruel"
"He devotes his life to god and his heart to the community"
Part D:
Overview: This week was very productive. We had a long discussion about how the characters act around eachother, and the situatuion going on in the book about Jaime and Landon going to prom together. Alex did a great job keeping everyone on the topic of the book. Olivia read us her fantastic quotes and we answered her questions.
Every time we ran out of ideas Alex would do a good job bringing us back on the topic of things like how Jaime's dad reacted to her date to the prom, and Landon's opinion of Jaime. It was very well put together and fun. We are loolking foward to next week's meeting.
Week Three:
Part a-Nikki Part b&c- Alex Part D- Olivia
Part a:
The mood of our book is depressing and romantic. Things between Jaime Sullivan and Landon Carter are really starting to heat up, and some very upsetting news has just been revealed to Landon; Jaime has cancer. Also, Jaime's mother passed away when Jaime was small, so she doesn't have a Mom to help her through her struggle. Luckily, she has Landon. He promises to keep supporting her through the tough journey. They both will not let this unfortunate disease keep their love apart. "A Walk to Remember" has a depressing, yet loving mood that can make a person think about the values of life.
Part D:
This week went great. we enjoyed nikkis milk chocolate brownies and got inturupted by jenny a few times. This book is getting very sad and touching. we dicussed the main topics of the book so far. We also talked about how how we felt about it. Poor jamie lives a hard life her mother died so having landon my group feels is good for her. I know that landon and jamie will be a good couple together and that he will support her thorugh the way. My group took a while to answer my question but they finally did and we feel landon and her should get more comfortable around eachother because when they were at the dance they didnt talk. this is what our group did this week.
Part B + C: Questions:
Who is Mr. Jenkins?
The man from the orphanage
Why doesn’t Mr. Jenkins like Jaime’s idea of showing the Christmas play at the orphanage?
Because “Christmas is a hard enough around here without reminding the kids of what they’re missing”
What did Landon say that made Jaime shocked at his interest in her?
“So what do you do?” I asked. “Besides working with the orphans or helping critters or reading the bible…?”
Which orphan was the first to shout “Jamie!” and what did he look like?
Roger, red hair and had freckles about 8 years old.
Why does Jamie carry around the bible?
Simply because it was her mothers
Quotes:
“They don’t have coloring books,” she whispered, “So they use newspapers.”
“ She looked hurt by my outburst, and to be honest, I couldn’t blame her.”
“It just gives me a way to… to be a part of her. Can you understand that?”
“We don’t do anything bad there. I mean we don’t knock over the tombstones, or leave our trash around.”
“ Those curveballs she sometimes threw could smack you right in between the eyeballs.”

Today our group discussion went great. At first we had no snacks, but thanks to a good friend, we got some sugar cookies. They were very appetizing and we ate all of them. While and after we were eating we just discussed how we felt about the fourth part of the book. We all came to the conclusion that is a very emotional part. Jaime and Landon are really unwinding their feelings at this point and it's very touching. W
Olivia kept us on topic for most of it, although at times we got a little off topic. But when we did, she was very good at making us go back to our original discussion. Nikki also did a good job on her part. She asked us her questions and read us her quotes. A few of her questions actually helped Olivia and I understand the book more. overall, this weeks discussion was fun and we are looking forward for next weeks.

Part D:
Today our group discussion went well and kind of disappointing, since it is our last book club. We discussed the whole story and how it made us feel when Jaime ended up passing away. Also, we talked about what it would feel like to be in the position of Jaime's father. The book affected us all and made us think about the values of life.
Part A;
We would definatley recommend our book to our peers. although many boys wouldn't be interested, most girls would love it. it's romantic, heart-wrenching, suspensful and so much more. i haven't read a book similar to A Walk to Remember. regardless, i think this one was very good and we would definatley want it to be a part of the school curriculum. it actually has a part with Landon seeing past Jaimies unpopularness and ends up loving her.
